Embracing Cranes / Sarah Richcreek + Sun- Young Gullery
About The Collaboration
Thrown by Sarah Richcreek and painted by Sun-Young Gullery. Sun-Young is Japanese-American and wanted to highlight a part of her personal story and culture. The cobalt blue is inspired by antique Japanese porcelain pottery. The illustration is reminiscent of a Red-Crowned Crane, a symbol of good luck and peace in Japanese culture. The cranes are harmoniously depicted in an embrace along the perimeter of the plate, surrounding the center where a meal is served. Made with speckled clay, and painted with underglaze.
About The Artists
Sarah Richcreek
Sarah is an accomplished potter who started her career in production work in 2012. She’s honed her craft by replicating tens of thousands of pots, making everything from early American ceramics to sleek modern wares. The only thing she loves more than wheel throwing is teaching! When she isn’t gardening or producing custom tableware, she teaches intermediate wheel, intro wheel, one-night classes, and private events at her studio, Mass Ave Mudroom.
Sun- Young Gullery
Sun-Young Gullery is a painter residing in Indianapolis, Indiana who loves capturing quiet beauty in small, thoughtful ways.
While juggling motherhood and teaching, she creates miniature acrylic and watercolor paintings of house portraits, small businesses, and everyday places.
Her art invites you to slow down, look a little closer, and find joy in the tiny details.
